Circumference is the inside ring hole.

Diameter is the width of the ring hole.

Here's a rough idea of US sizes in Small, Medium & Large Terms:

Sizes 6-7 = XS / S | Sizes 8-9 = S/M | Sizes 10-11 = M/L | Sizes 12-13 = L/XL
